Breakfast at the hotel. Depart for the Kinabalu National Park. Meet Dusun (Kadazan) people in their highland market, see Mt Kinabalu from the national park headquarters, visit the herbal garden. Go to Poring Hotspring and do the "canopy walk", soak in the sulphurous baths at the hotspring. Go to Ranau to see the Dusun people in their village. More views of Mt Kinabalu. Day 3 : KNP – SANDAKAN (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)

Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to Kota Kinabalu airport for the flight to Sandakan. Upon arrival, meet and tour Sandakan that Agnes Keith made well-known in her war-time book, "Land below the Wind". Visit the Orang Utan Sanctuary in Sepilok to see the rangers rehabilitate repossessed orang utan, enabling them to live in the wilds again. Then go across the river to the Gomantong Caves home to thousands of swifts whose saliva rejuvenates old and flagging men and make the bird's-nest trader rich. Then proceed to the Kinabatangan River in search of the proboscis monkeys and other wild life that teem the Kinabatangan in the late afternoon/early evening. Do a jungle walk at night if you like. Overnight at the Borneo Nature Lodge, Sukau, Kinabatangan.

Day 4 : KINABATANGAN - SANDAKAN – KUDAT (Breakfast/Lunch)

Breakfast at the hotel. Journey in the wilds of Sabah as we make our way back to Sandakan. Transfer to Sandakan airport for the flight to Kudat in the north of Sabah by MH3001 dep.1610/arr.1700. Upon arrival, meet and transfer to tour the Rungus longhouse and village in Kudat. Join other people to go on the Rungus longhouse tour, visiting the Bavanggazo longhouse located in the Kudat district, which is about 160 km to the north of Kota Kinabalu. The Rungus are the main ethnic group living in the Kudat district and the Bavanggazo longhouse is a great example of the cultural heritage of this people. A visit to the longhouse is a unique and eye-opening experience for visitors. The tour then takes you to Kampung Sumangkap where you will watch gong-making before continuing to Kampung Gambizou to watch honey bee rearing. Spend the rest of the day getting to know the Rungus people in their local habitat. You will be welcome by a ceremonial dance and a drink of their rice wine at the longhouse.

Day 5 : KUDAT – KOTA BELUD –K.KINABALU (Breakfast)

Breakfast at the hotel. Early morning departure to Kota Belud to attend the Sunday Tamu in Bajau country where once a week the ethnic groups (Muruts, Kadazans, Malays, Chinese, including the Bajaus on their ponies), come to market. It's a colourful affair, seen in the festive air and traditional clothing of the various ethnic peoples at the Tamu. Proceed south to return to Kota Kinabalu. Upon arrival, check into your hotel. At leisure to wander about the town on your own.

Day 6 : KOTA KINABALU – SIBU – KAPIT (Breakfast)

Breakfast at the hotel. Flight to Sibu (Sarawak) by MH3183, dep.0800/arr.0935. Meet upon arrival and transfer by boat up the Rejang River to an Iban longhouse where from the rafters hang the skull trophies of these former head-hunters and river pirates. (I am not sure, but from time to time a new skull is added to keep the collection moving.) Kapit is a bustling market town right in the heart of Iban country.

Day 7 : KAPIT – FREE DAY (Breakfast)

Breakfast at hotel. Free day in Kapit for deeper exploration of Iban country, visiting the Ibans in their longhouses where photographs of the Rajah Brookes and young Queen Elizabeth II hang on the bamboo walls. See their farms and small-game hunting. And if your luck is good you would be invited by the headman of the longhouse to see the virile dance of the Iban warrior accompanied by chants and gongs in what is known as the "Iban social hour".
In such an event it is customary to bring along a gift.Overnight in Greenland Inn, Kapit.

Day 8 : KAPIT – KUCHING (Breakfast)

Breakfast at hotel. Travel by boat down the Rejang River to Sibu town. Along the way the express boat stops at Song and Kanowit, two small Iban settlements and from there transfer to Sibu airport for the flight to Kuching by MH3695, dep.0800/arr.0935. Or be transferred by car to Sarikei to take the express boat to Kuching (about 5 hours), which many people do. Upon arrival in Kuching, meet and transfer to hotel. Check-in and be at leisure.

Day 9: KUCHING (Breakfast)

Breakfast at the hotel. City tour of Kuching visiting the Main Bazaar and Kuching Waterfront Park where you can go wild if you are into antiques and primitive art, the Charles Brooke Memorial, Fort Astana and the world-famous Sarawak Museum. Renown naturalist and co-founder of the theory of evolution, Alfred Russell Wallace, urged Rajah Charles Brooke to establish this marvellous museum. The old Chinese enclave since the days of Raja James Brooke has numerous shops; so also the newer Indian enclave filled with spices and curry eating places.

Day 10 : KUCHING – KUALA LUMPUR (Breakfast)
